GET THEE TO A NUNNERY - COMPILATION CD

The sexy nun picture on the cover of this CD should please Floyd and all others with peculiar Catholic fetishes. International hardcore comp with everyone’s dance floor heroes DS-13 and a mess of other bands, none of who I’m familiar with (unless the MORMONS are the ones from Ohio). NINE CURVE from Japan and KNOCK UP step forward and volunteer themselves as the bands that I’d like to see more of. Also not too shabby are HAVAISTYS, FREAKS AND HUONO OLO. (TH)

Hardcore madness takes form in this in this mad assortment of bands brought to you from Craig of Schizophrenic. 9 Curve: Japanese speed metal that makes you want to mosh with all those long hairs you used to despise. Black Mass of Absu: First track is death metal with organs. Second track is grindcore with industrial noise added to the mix. DS13: Do I have to even describe the Swedish Gods? Worth the purchase price for these tracks alone. Havaistys: Finnish hardcore just the way I like it, abrasive and raw. Hyper Hindu Squatters: more in the raw punk vein from what I’m assuming is an all-girl band from Japan. Kokosha Glava: here is something I didn’t expect from this comp. Bulgarian ska! Good change of pace! Mormons: Raw demotape sounding punk that is sarcastic. Freaks; Japanese pile drivers that force the issue with great hardcore that is thick as mush as it is mean. The Knock Ups: Swedish garage rockers who mix this thing up again. Banglin Bay: another band from Japan that gets sloppy without falling apart and play fast enough to keep me interested. Huono Olo: old school sounding Finish punk. Demona: ethereal noise probably made by a guy on his computer so that he can use it to accompany his multi media art project. Ten bucks buys you this diversity of music.-Donofthedead.

V/A – Get Thee To A Nunnery (schizophrenic Canada)
Although this is a Canadian label, this disc is at least mostly comprised of Japanese bands. There are people who are into spastic Japanese hardcore and noise. I think both of them work for Relapse Records. This is a joke, right? I love the artwork, the layout, the anti-Mormon, anti-Jesus thing, the naked women with skulls and blood, the nuns with guns – that shit is classic. But the disc- this is music??? I don’t get it. If you have heard Melt Banana and don’t think they suck ass, go ahead and buy this. It’s your money. I’m going to listen to Cephalic Carnage instead. THE IMPALER
